Red Gradient Trick

 
This tutorial is NOT to be scripted or made into a "Quick Guide" unless it is for your own personal use. 
 
To do this tutorial you will need a working knowledge of PSP. If you are new to PSP, or have a problem doing this tutorial, you can find me at Raven's PSP Forum, be happy to help you out.

Unzip the file and extract to your PSP 8 gradients folder.

This is an easy tutorial, I've included many screen shots to try to show each step in detail

 

 
Step 1

Start with an image 500 X 300 pixels.

 

 

Step 2

Open your Materials Palette and find the "mqc Red" gradient.
For "Style" click on Sunburst.
Set the "Repeats" to 1.
Check "Invert".


Uncheck the box for "Link Center and Focal Points".
Set the Horizontal and Vertical Center Points to 0.
Set the Horizontal Focal Point to 83.
Set the Vertical Focal Point to 70.

Click OK. 
Flood Fill your background.

 

 

Step 3

Go to Effects>Distortion Effects>Polar Coordinates
Click on Rectangular to polar and Repeat.

 

 

Step 4

Go to Layers>Duplicate.
Go to Image>Mirror.
Open your Layer Palette, click the arrow next to Normal on Copy of Raster 1.
Set the Layer Blend Mode to Lighten.

   

 

Step 5

Go to Layers>Merge>Merge Visible.
Go to Layers>Duplicate.
Go to Image>Flip.

 

 

Step 6

Go to Selections>Select All.
Go to Selections>Modify>Select Color Range.
The Color Picker will appear. You want to delete the background color.
Click on the dark portion of your image to set the Reference Color.
Set the Tolerance to 50. Set the Softness to 100.
Click on Subtract Color Range.
Click OK.

Go to Selection>Invert.
Go to Edit>Clear.

 

 
Step 7

Go to Selections>Select None.
Go Adjust>Sharpen>Sharpen More.
Go to Adjust>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask. Use the default settings.



That's it, you're done.:)
