Tips and Tutorials for PSP 7

This tutorial is NOT to be scripted or made into a "Quick Guide" unless it is for your own personal use. 
 

To do this tutorial you will need a working knowledge of PSP. If you are new to PSP, or have a problem doing this tutorial, you can find me at Raven's PSP forum, be happy to help you out.

 You also need to download these three gradients.

 

Step 1
Open a new image 400 x 400, Transparent.
Flood Fill  with the Fight gradient
Use these settings.

 

 

Step 2
Go to Effects>Geometric Effects>Pixelate.
Use these settings.

 

 

Step 3
Go to Effects>Edge>Enhance More

 

 
Step 4
Go to Effects>Edge>Find All.

 

 
Step 5
Go to Effects>Texture Effects>Rough Leather.
Use the setting Custom  2. Click here if you don't have that setting.

 

 
Step 6
Go to Effects>Geometric Effects>Warp.
Use these settings.

Repeat the Warp effect. You should see this. Open your layer palette, click on your layer and drag it into an empty space on your work area.  You'll now have two identical images.
Minimize the second one.

Click on your original image to activate it.
Go to Edit>Undo Warp, 
Edit>Undo Warp,
Edit>Undo> Rough Leather,
Edit>Undo> Find All.
Your image will look like this now.

 

 
Step 7
Go to Effects>Edge>Find Horizontal Edges.
Go to Effects>Texture Effects>Rough Leather.
Use the setting Custom  2 again.

Go to Effects>Geometric Effects>Warp.
Use the same settings.

 

 
Step 8
Go to Layers>Duplicate, then Image>Rotate.
Make sure the box for All Layers is NOT checked.


Open your layer palette and set the Layer Blend Mode to Multiply on the top layer.

 

 
Step 9
Copy and paste your first orb over the first two layers.
Set the Layer Blend Mode to Screen on Layer 3.
Adjust the opacity on Copy of Layer 1 to whatever you like.
Right Click on Layer 3, go to Merge>Merge Visible.

Note: Duplicate your image, Shift D, before merging and save. You may want to make adjustments later.

 

 

Step 10
Go to Layers>New Raster Layer. Click Okay.
Flood fill with the Sand gradient.
Use these settings.


Drag the Sand Layer under your merged layers.
Set the Layer Blend Mode on your merged layer to Luminance.

 

 

Step 11
Add a New Raster Layer and make a circle selection in the center of your orb.
Doesn't have to exactly in center, just close.


Save your selection to an Alpha Channel.
Go to Selections>Save to Alpha Channel.
Click OK twice.

Flood fill your selection with red. Color #FF0000

 
Step 12
Go to Selections>Select None.
Go to Effects>3d Effects>Inner Bevel.
Use these settings.

Set the Layer Blend Mode to Screen

 

 
Step 13
Go to Selections>Load from Alpha Channel. Click OK.
Go to Selections>Invert.
Go to Edit>Clear.
Go to Selections>Invert.


Add a New Raster Layer 
Fill with the Sand gradient.
Set the Layer Blend mode to Color.

 

 
Step 14
Add a New Raster Layer 
Fill with the Black.
Set the Layer Blend mode to Screen.

 

 
Step 15
Go to Effects>Illumination Effects>Sunburst.
Click on one of the colors in your orb.

Click on the color you chose.
On the Color Palette, click the arrow on the Light setting.
Move the slider down to a very light shade of your color.
Click OK.
Position the Sunburst. Click OK.
Go to Selections>Select None.

 

 
Step 16
Add a new Raster Layer.
Fill with the Fawn gradient.
Use these settings.

 

 
Step 17
Set the Layer Blend Mode to Color.
You can call it done.:)

Note: Save this as a PSP file with your first saved section, before you do anything else with it. 
Always use a copy of this orb to make changes. Experiment by changing the different layers and you'll have a variety of orbs. Click here to see some examples.

 

 

Step 18
If you want to get rid of the background grid, go to Layers>Merge>Merge Visible.
Select your orb. Set the feather to 2.

Go Selections>Invert, and then Edit>Clear.
Go to Selections> Select None.
