Back to Ice Cave

This tutorial is NOT to be scripted or made into a "Quick Guide" unless it is for your own personal use.

To do this tutorial you will need a working knowledge of PSP. If you are new to PSP, or have a problem doing this tutorial, you can find me at Raven's PSP forum, be happy to help you out.

You also need to download my Jag gradient.

Open a new image 400 x 400, Transparent
Flood Fill with the Jag gradient, set it to Linear gradient-Repeats 0

Make a Point to Point Freehand Selection similar to this.
On the Main Menu  go to Layers>New Raster Layer

Set your Jag gradient to Repeats 12 and Flood Fill your selection.

On your Main Menu, go to Selections> Select None.
Back to the Main Menu, go to Effects>Geometric Effects> Wave.
Use these settings.

Click on the side of your selection with the Magic Wand to select it again.
On the Main Menu go to Selections>Invert.

Set your Foreground color to White.
Click on the Airbrush and use these Settings.

This is the most important step to make ice.
Brush your white over your selection,  you want some background showing.
How you brush your white on determines how much your ice will look like ice.
There is no right or wrong way to do it, every piece of ice will look different.

Keep your ice Selected.
On the Main Menu, go to Effects>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Set it to 5.

Keep your ice selected.
On the Main Menu, go to Effects>Texture Effects>Sandstone. Use Custom 2.

Keep your ice selected.
On the Main Menu, go to Effects> Texture Effects>Rough Leather. Use Custom 2.

Deselect.
On you Main Menu go to Colors>Histogram Functions>Equalize.

Click the arrow on the right side of Layer 2, choose Luminance for the Blend Mode.

Select your Icicles, on your Main Menu go to Layers>Merge>Merge Visible.
Invert your Selection, on your Main menu go to Edit>Clear.
Deselect

Just add your icicles as a new layer to your image.
You might want to add a drop shadow, also.
