Someone wanted to know how to create a ripped effect like the right side of this image.

I just made this up as I went along so you may have to experiment some to get exactly what you want.

I used the freehand selection to make a ragged cutout, make sure you don't use feather or anti-alias

I deleted the selection, but left it selected. I expanded the selection by 2, feathered by 2

I went over the selected part with the warp tool set to noise

Contracted the selection by 4, feathered it by 2 and went over the selected part with the burn tool set at a low opacity

I added the drop shadow and called it done..:)
