Glass or Porcelain Part 2

|
|
| This tutorial is
NOT to be scripted or made into a "Quick Guide" unless it is
for your own personal use.
|
|
|
To do this tutorial you will need a
working knowledge of PSP. If you are new to PSP, or have a problem doing
this tutorial, you can find me at Raven's
PSP Forum, be happy to help you out.
I used a rose tube I made from a photo at Designs
by Donna. (PSP 8 tube)
Click here to download the zipped tube,
extract it to your tube folder.
Part 1 Part 2

|
|
Step 1
Open a new image 500 X 500
Set the background to Transparent.
|
|
|
Step 2
Go to your Tool Bar and click on your tube icon.
Go to your Tool Options Palette ( F4 will open it ), find the
"donna rose4" tube.
|
|
|
Step 3
Click once in the center of your canvas to place the tube.

( shown at 50% )
|
|
|
Step 4

|
|
|
|
Step 7
Open your layer palette.
Go to Copy of Raster 1, click the small arrow next to
"Normal".
You'll see a drop down menu of the Layer Blend Modes, go to
"Lighten".
|
| |
|
Step 8
Go to Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Edge Preserving Smooth.
Click on the eye icon so you can see the effect preview on your image.
You want to soften the Topography effect just a bit.
|
| |
Step 9

Go to Layers>Merge>Merge Down.
|
| |
Step 10
Go to Adjust>Hue and Saturation>Colorize.
Experiment with the settings until you find a glass look you like.

If you like the look you have, go to Raster1 and click on the eye to
hide the bottom layer. Add a Shadow and background, call it done.:)
|
| |
Step 11
You can experiment with Layer Blend Modes to get a variety of looks.
Click the eye on Raster 1 to turn the visibility back on.
Change the Layer Blend Mode on Copy of Raster 1 to Luminance.

You can also try dragging Raster 1 over Copy of Raster 1.
Experiment with Layer Blend Modes and Opacity.

|
| |
Step 12
Go to Layers>Merge>Merge Visible.
You may see some dark edges on your flower.
To get rid of the edge, go to Selection>Select All.
Click on the flower with Magic Wand.
You'll see your selection change to hug your flower.
Go to Selections>Defloat.
Go to Selections>Modify>Inside/Outside Feather.
Set it to Inside 2

Go to Selections>Invert.
Go to Edit>Clear.
Go to Selections>Select None.
That dark edge should be gone, if not repeat the feather and clear
again.
|
| |
|
Step 13
Go to Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow.
Use whatever settings look good to you.
Make sure to check "Shadow on new layer" so you can change it
easily.
|
|
|
Step 14
Go to Layers>New Raster Layer.
Go to Layers>Arrange>Send to bottom.
Flood fill
your background with whatever color or pattern you prefer.

That's it, you're done..:)

Different colors and types of flowers might need more experimenting.
RedDirt from Thin Air
Graphics had good results with another method and a dark hollyhock.
"I followed all your instructions in Part 2 through the first
"merge down" but changed the topography settings to width = 4,
density = 6. Then, instead of going through the colorizing process, I
simply used the Screen layer blend mode. I then merged down, removed the
dark outline, and followed the rest of the tut.
It's not the same etched-glass look that you got in Part 2, but I think
it's a very effective porcelain or glass flower look."
