Papyrus Texture

This tutorial is NOT to be scripted or made into a "Quick Guide" unless it is for your own personal use.

To do this tutorial you will need a working knowledge of PSP. If you are new to PSP, or have a problem doing this tutorial, you can find me at Raven's PSP Forum, be happy to help you out.

This is an easy tutorial, I've included many screen shots to try to show each step in detail.

Step 1

Open a new image 500 X 500
Set the background to Transparent.

Set your Foreground Color to Grey #808080

Step 2

Click on the Selection Tool on your Tool Bar.

On your Tool Options Ribbon ( F4 ) click the box for Custom selection.
Set the numbers as shown here.

Flood Fill your selection.

Step 3

Go to Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise.
Use these settings.

Go to Selections>Select None.

Step 4

Click on the Deform Tool on your Toolbar.

Grab the center handle on the right of your strip and pull it across.

Stop just before you reach the opposite side,

It should look like this.

Step 5

Go to Effects>Distortion Effects>Wind.

Step 6

Go to Layers>Duplicate.
Go to Image>Mirror.

Open your Layer Palette.
Click the small arrow next to Normal on Copy of Raster 1.
Set the Layer Blend Mode to Dodge.

Step 7

Go to Layers>Merge>Merge Visible.
Go to Layers>Duplicate.

Go to Effects>Texture Effects>Soft Plastic.
Use these settings, color #A5826C.
(If you've downloaded my presets, this is one I call "accent")

Set the Layer Blend Mode to Multiply.

Step 8

On your Layer Palette, click on the first layer (Merged) to activate it.
Go to Effects>Artistic Effects>Aged Newspaper. Set it to 100%.

Step 9

Go to Effects>Texture Effects>Fur.
Use these Settings.

Step 10

At this point you should save a copy  of your image (Shift+D) as a PSP file.
The next steps can give you a variety of different looks.

You could go to Effects>Texture Effects>Texture and experiment with some the different presets.
Crinkled Paper looks good, so do a lot of others.

Instead of using a Texture I went to Effects>Texture Effects>Straw-Wall.
(If you've downloaded my presets, this is one I call "cardboard")

Step 11-Optional

Go to Effects>Artistic Effects>Halftone.
Use these settings. Colors #0B96FC and  #BDB05B

Step 12

On your Layer Palette, click on your top layer (Copy of Merged) to activate it.
Go to Edit>Copy Merged.
Go to Edit>Paste>Paste as New Layer.

Go to Effects>Artistic Effects>Contours.
Use these settings. Color #621946.
(If you've downloaded my presets, this is one I call "misty")

Step 13

Set the Layer Blend Mode to Hard Light.
Move the Opacity slider to different settings until you get a look you like.

Step 14-Optional

Go to Layers>Merge>Merge Visible.
Go to Effects>Distortion Effects>Wave.
You can give a little wave to your straight edges.

That's it, you're done.:)

Experiment, and have fun!
