Mini-Screw

Just a quick trick for making small screws.

This tutorial is NOT to be scripted or made into a "Quick Guide" unless it is for your own personal use.

To do this tutorial you will need a working knowledge of PSP. If you are new to PSP, or have a problem doing this tutorial, you can find me at Raven's PSP Forum, be happy to help you out.

You also need my Cut Gradient. Click here to download. Unzip the file and place it in your gradients folder.

This is an easy tutorial, I've included many screen shots to try to show each step in detail.

Step 1

Open a new image 100 X 100
Set the background to Transparent.

Flood Fill with a White.

Go to Layers>New Raster Layer.
Click on your Selection Tool and select a small circle.

Note: The circle shown here is about as big as you can use this method for.
It looks better the smaller it is.

You can find a nice tutorial on making more detailed screws at Pinoy 7.

Step 2

Set your Foreground Color to #404040.

Flood Fill your circle.

Step 3

Go Effects>Illumination Effects>Sunburst.
Use these settings. Color #1F6DE1

Step 4

Go to Effects>Texture Effects>Sandstone.
Use these Settings. Color White.

Step 5

Go to Effects>Artistic Effects>Chrome.
Use these settings.

Step 6

Go to Effects>3D Effects>Inner Bevel.
Use these settings.

Step 7

Open your Materials Palette and find the "mqc Cut" Gradient.
Set it like this.

Step 8

Go to Layers>New Raster Layer.
Flood Fill your new layer with the gradient.

Step 9

Open your Layer Palette, click the small arrow next to Normal on Layer 3 and set the Layer Blend Mode to Darken.

Go Layers>Merge>Merge Down.
That will merge your 2 Screw layers but not your background.

Step 10

Go to Selections>Modify>Inside/Outside Feather.
Set it to Inside, Feather Amount 1.
Go to Selections>Invert.
Go to Edit>Clear. Repeat Edit>Clear.
Go to Selections>Select None.
That will give you a cleaner edge around your screw.

Step 11

Go to Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow.
These are the settings I used, use whatever looks right for your image.
It's best to keep your shadow on a separate layer so you can change it easily.

That's it, you're done.:)

Experiment, and have fun!
